Idol Chatter for May 22, 2008: "And the new Idol is..."

It's all over for another year, folks! Last night, the 2008 American Idol was crowned live on the show at about 10:55 p.m. Atlantic / 9:55 p.m. Eastern.

I predicted that David Archuleta would win hands down. So did all the reviewers. But the online polls and dialidol.com, which boasts a 100% success rate at predicting the winner, said David Cook would be the winner.

Who was right? Click here to find out!

This is the end of Idol Chatter for me! Thanks to everyone for all their kind comments and e-mails. I really appreciated them. And thanks also to the Moncton Times & Transcript for asking me to write the column. This was the second time I've written an Idol column for the paper - the first being during the 2005 season of Canadian Idol. It's been a lot of fun!

Canadian Idol begins June 3 on CTV, so you'll only have to wait a few weeks for your next fix of Idol. Seeya!

Idol Chatter for May 21, 2008: "Which David will win?"

The performance show of all performance shows finally aired last night as the two Davids - Archuleta and Cook - battled it out for the title of American Idol 2008.

To be honest, last night was one of the best finals I've ever seen on either American Idol or Canadian Idol. It was a great show with both contestants doing a great job. No one tanked... no one forgot lyrics... no one cracked under the pressure.

But... with that said... one of the Davids scored a knock-out blow by outsinging the other on every song. Simon declared this particular David the winner of all three "rounds" (each sang three times)... and at the end of the show, each judge was unanimous on who deserved to win the title. The David who scored the knockout punch impressed those who thought maybe he could not handle the pressure. (That's a hint, folks!)

Which David was it and which David do I think will win American Idol tonight? Click here to find out.

Tonight's two-hour season finale begins at 9 p.m. Atlantic / 8 p.m. Eastern on Fox. Don't miss it!

Happy Victoria Day!

Here in Canada, today is a statutory holiday called Victoria Day. The holiday honours the birthdays of both the late Queen Victoria and the current queen, Elizabeth II.

Here's a scene from Queen Victoria's funeral in 1901:
