American Idol: Idol Chatter for Thursday, April 30, 2009

Last night's American Idol show went as planned in one way: Matt Giraud was eliminated, as was the prediction of practically every single reviewer in Idol-land, including me.

The big shocker was that Adam Lambert - the favourite to win - was dealt a major blow by finding himself in the bottom two. Kris Allen rounded out the bottom three and was the first declared safe.

That Adam found himself in the bottom three this week was a complete shock. It's what makes American Idol popular. Sometimes, things just happen that are completely unpredictable. As much as I like Adam and hope he'll win, I love the fact that these surprise results pop up from time to time to keep us on our toes.

If you think Adam was over the top as a front-runner, I can't wait to see what he's going to do next week for the rock-and-roll theme. This is right up his alley. Allison and Danny will also do well next week. Next up for elimination, I think it may be Kris. He's just not a rock-and-roll kinda guy.

Of course, we'll have to see the performances before we write off Kris, so tune in to Fox next Tuesday at 9 p.m. Atlantic / 8 p.m. Eastern to watch all the fun!

Is Adam now damaged goods or is he stronger than ever now that his fans have been dealt a jolt of reality that they can't take his popularity for granted? Is Danny Gokey the new favourite to win? Click here to read my Idol Chatter column in today's Monctom Times & Transcript.
