American Idol: Idol chatter for Thursday, April 9, 2009

I think I'm pretty good at making predictions, but I was particularly happy this week to see my guesses were 100% bang on! Lil, Anoop and Scott ended up in the bottom three - with Scott being made to sing for his life at the end of the show. Unofortunately, the judges didn't like what they saw and could not come to a unanimous decision on the "Judges' Save" and sent him home. That meant that one of this season's most endearing contestants has been shown the door. Good luck to Scott, who was a class act all the way - and he had pretty good comeback lines, too! After this week, Anoop is clearly on life support, with Lil not far behind. Click here to read my Idol Chatter column in today's Moncton Times & Transcript.

Billy Bob Thornton's meltdown on CBC Radio

CBC Radio Q host Jian Ghomeshi interviewed Billy Bob Thornton's band The Boxmasters on the show today. Thornton was a complete train wreck.

His bandmates were probably dying inside. Looks like they wanted to crawl under the table.

My pick for this week's #1 performance on American Idol...

Not even close... no contest... not even debatable... Adam Lambert's version of "Mad World", the 1982 hit by Tears for Fears:

Today's Hump Day column...

... is all about Easter and how it's best to stick to traditional treats. The Easter Bunny brought my brother, sister and me white chocolate bunnies one year and they were not a hit, to say the least. American Idol: Idol Chatter for Wednesday, April 8, 2009

The theme of last night's show was songs from the year you were born, which meant that most contestants sang songs from the 1980s. Only Allison sang a song from the 1990s since she is by far the youngest contestant.

I thought last night's show was terrible until the end when Allison, Matt and Adam saved the night. Adam's performance of the 1982 Tears for Fears hit "Mad World" was a masterpiece, earning him a standing ovation from Simon. A standing ovation from Simon is pretty much right up there with Mother Teresa telling you you're a nice person or Donald Trump calling you to borrow money because you're richer than he is. What a compliment! I've listened to Adam's performance on YouTube about five times already and it is truly amazing.

I think the only guaranteed members of the bottom two are Scott and Lil, with the third member being either Kris or Anoop. Scott was particularly atrocious last night.

Moncton SPCA: Meet Ilsa!

Ilsa is a beautiful four-year-old bobtail who arrived at the shelter on January 2. Although she was a little shy at first, she is now amazingly affectionate and sweet. She rolls over and asks to have her belly rubbed whenever she gets taken out of her kennel. Although she appears to be quite independent, she does love to be petted. Her innate curiosity and intelligence keep her busy exploring her surroundings and watching what is going on outside when she can get to a window! She also loves to play with any cat toys as you can see in the video! She is hoping for a loving home where she can be free and happy!
